AROMAS & FLAVORS
The 2020 Lindsay’s Pinot Noir opens with aromas of bright red cherry cola and accents of red cranberry fruit with dashes of black pepper. On the palate, it is a light-bodied Pinot Noir with dominant flavors of red cranberry tart and fresh red raspberry purée. Spiced peppercorn, dried cherry, and raspberry fruit notes linger on the finish. This wine would be a delight paired with a creamy fromage.
VINEYARDS & WINEMAKING
The sustainably-farmed fruit for Lindsay’s Pinot Noir comes from a beautiful south-facing hillside that climbs from 500 to 1,000 feet above sea level. It is a rolling hillside site that offers ‘limiting’ soils, large diurnal temperature swings, and a long growing season. The 2020 features Pinot Noir clones 828 and 115. The fruit was harvested and sorted in the vineyard with the clusters, then carefully destemmed to keep the berries intact. The fruit was cold soaked for 4 days and then fermented in open top bins with regular punch downs to extract maximum color and flavor. After primary fermentation was complete, the wine was drained and the skins were gently pressed. The Pinot Noir was aged for 16 months in French oak barrels, 30% new.
VINTAGE
The 2020 growing season began with a dry, cool weather pattern that led to a 3-day heat surge of 100 degree temperatures in July. Though nearby fires diminished air quality in the area, we were fortunate not to face any immediate threats to the winery. Through all the challenges 2020 presented, the sense of comradery in our team grew and the result is a vintage of expressive and delightful wines.
